There were a lot of similarities in the discussion we had about how English will help you socially, academically, and professionally. But you are also individuals with seperate interests and reasons for studying English.
Your homework is to create ONE individual English language S.M.A.R.T. goal for yourself. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Realisitc. Timed.
Here are examples: Do you want to work on your vocabulary. Be specific: what kind of vocabulary? Do you want to work on conversation? Be specific. What type of conversation: E-mail conversation? text message? spoken conversation about fun things? about political science? Do you want to work on grammar? Be specific: what type of grammar. Do want to master the present continuous? Think of ONE specific goal for yourself.
Measurable: This is where you ask yourself how much or how many. How many words will you learn? How many conversations will you have? How long will they be? How many letters will you write? To whom? How many grammar exercises will you complete?
Achievable: Set a goal that you can achieve, but do not make it too easy.
Realistic: Think about how much time you want to spend on this goal. You have other classes, and a social life. Look over your goal and ask if you can achieve it in the amount of time that you have.
Timed: This is a semester goal: you have 2.5 months, until mid January.
This is a contract with yourself, so think carefully about your goal.
Write your S.M.A.R.T. goal and either 1) post it here or 2) bring itto class.

Thanks for the post, Medison. I think you do understand the assignment. We spoke in class about general reasons for studying English. The homework assignment is to make one specific and individual English language goal for yourself. It is something that you can review at the end of the semester and say, "Yes, I did it!" or "No, I didn't accomplish my goal, but I'll create a new, more realistic goal for myself." Hope this helps.
Hi Michelle i'm Muhamet.Must we make the SMART in a form of a table or text.Thank you,see you in the class

Hi Jon
Dear Jony, under my investigation I noticed that we are in the same
project.Maybe you’ve noticed that the caucus of all political parties are happening on the same time, even that they should do it before now. Also they are all supported in one person called “Charismatic authority”.Their delegates are not very qualificated
for their required post. They’re also preparing a gerrymander to take their majority on election. The constituency are also prepared for those election,to be sure that there will be no ilegal interfere.
Jon I would prefere you to be as near as you can.what do you thik is that going to be an multiparty system,I don’t think so.There are
to much personal parties. It also can’t be an apoil system,’cause I think that this year election are much secure. After election do you think that is going to be a government faction….or two-party system. This kind of hall,or lobbying..do you thik is going to be like a quiz for them. There also are to much interes-group,with common goals that may do something .Anyway is that going to
be a referendum to pleasure the people.
This is my thought about the election, but I would like to have a bigger interaction between us.

Hi Michelle, hope that you're having a good day so far.
I wanted to ask you about the homeworks that you are giving, i was not sure if we should post our answers in your blog here or in our blog? Waiting on your reply.
Thank you
Merita
Hi Michelle, what's up/I'm just getting the words for our task,...I hope you're fine...see you tomorrow.
Dear Emma
I wanted to tell you something about the elections in Kosovo.Kosovo is a small country which has formed a political culture for a very short time. After year 1999 we have installed the democracy where through coalitions of political parties we formed 4 governments in only one constituency.Political parties lead with charismatic authorities as interesting groups. My country also has multiparty system and if we can't realise the independence, political parties has determined to declare the referendum. So Emma this is my opinion about the elecions.
hi
here is my homework
*****************
miss michel foshue,we write to you because we need your help for a disavantaged situation who's the composition of this misunderstings in our country.we are a female group who's managed an organisation of human rights...
-but here we are misunderstanding from the population , they call names ,they say that we are feminist just because that we are all female.we aren't feminist also we don't consider our self somekind of elite ,we are a group of womens that have lost their husbands or the most part of their family during the war.things like:financial insurence ,occasions, education of fatherless...are our functions.we defy descrimination that is why we want thereafter they don't look down us like a feminist ,because superstition is kind of violence for us.you think that we'll find the way to bend they one's will that our job is honesty, what will influence on them to change mind about us,and to undersantand "an organisation with female could be legitim"
we wish you could help us...
terms that i used :
-elite
-feminism
-violence
-legitimacy
-functions
-influence
-human rights....
Dear Lynn,
As you may know this time is a hactic time for our plitical parties, because in the next two weeks are going to be elections. The candidates in race for being delegates are trying to convince us in every possible way just to get our votes, like making emotional speeches, making posters and pictures with world's famous leaders and their party leaders that they consider them as a charismatic authorities. We have a multiparty system and it's real mess(I mean we have more than 50 different political parties).I think for you americans it is easy to decide for who to vote for, based on your political culture and on that you have a two-party system that makes it easier to decide. The fact that in the competition are thousand of candidates and political parties they are forced in a way to make coalitions between them so this is a kind of confusion and a hard desicion for us to decide who deserves our votes...!
I hope that you are a little bit familiar with our system of election after readin this E-mail.
Best wishes Fatmire

Subject:Election’s in Kosova
Dear Michael
I have heared that you are intersted in the elections of next weeks in Kosova. At first i would like to inform you about the system here. The leader’s of the political parties here has a charismatic authority, which they use very careful toward the citizen.Since the end of the war, in Kosovo were hold four (4) election’s (General and Municipal Election),and all were hold with a multi-party system, which is again in the elections of next week. For our political culture and life is necessary we to have a two-pary system, because with hat the political life will have more power and will be more funny.Since 16 years we don’t has had a referendum even though we has many things that must be decided form the people, like the status question, the decentralization etc.
For the interests group it was difficult to give a contribute in the election programms of the parties, because we here don’t have a lobby life, and for that the influenc of civil society is very low in the political life and the decision making.
I hope that we coalition what will out-come from this elections will make changes, but also the time for the new government will be a challenge.
I hope i have help you with some information, for futher information pleas contact me.
Best Wishes
Muhamet
Dear Jessica
After war we started to organize independent elections so we don’t have a politic culture like your country…
This period is very important for my country, the period before the elections.
It’s very difficult for us because we have over 40 politic parties so we have a multiparty system, it’s very different from your country which is two party system.
There are many politic parties but only few of them are big and important so smaller parties made a coalition with the big ones.
Politic parties are guided by charismatic authorities and the other delegates who candidate for Kosovo Assembly, for leaders of municipality and municipality advisors.
Political parties and interest groups are using everything to get the votes for them ….
I hope that political parties and their delegates will keep their promises, especially their biggest promise, promise for independence because if not it will be a politic crisis, these election will consider failed and people will lose a trust in them definitely
If they don’t keep this promise I hope that we are going to organize a referendum for independence just like the other countries.
Kind Regards,
Donika Emini
Dear XX.
I am very happy to be able to start this e-mail exchanging with you because it will bring both of as a new and very interesting experience. As we already agreed we have an obligation to inform each other about the most recent activities in our countries. In this context I’m writing you today about one of the most important issues for Kosova write now: elections. And since I heard you’re doing a research on politics in Kosova, I’ll try to be even more specific.
These are our very important, very crucial and very complicated elections held on a very specific time. Kosova, as you know is on the process of the definition of its political status and as the issue didn’t still find its solution this remains the top of the topics. But, parallel to this, elections turned out to be another major process through which we necessarily, despite the status, had to pass in this moment. We need them because of proceeding with our “new, just-born democracy” in order to have a clear image of what’s Kosova’s people verdict. Some assume the elections to be kind of a referendum on deciding what direction will Kosova take, but I don’t agree that much with the idea. A referendum for the status issue would be far more acceptable.
We are going to have three pair of election: elections for general assembly, municipality assembly and for mayors. The system for the first time is going to be proportional with open lists. The elections will be held on 17 of November.
These elections are our challenge in many ways, we have to pass the exam and one of the fields is political culture. We get to now this system of leading and making politics very late compared to your country for example, so it’s normal and accepted to have problems and barriers. Plus, the circumstances do not still offer a normal climate for providing a completed “political culture”. Having considerated all these factors I would conclude that we are on a good way on really improving our political culture.
Different from you we do not have, as I guess you know, a two-party system since we have a multiparty one. There’s a large number of political subjects compared to the territory and population of Kosova, which are running in the elections. You might be surprised but is actually normal. People here are frustrated and very unhappy with so many things, with the status issue being the major problem. Since they have no trust on others they all want to be decision-makers themselves, and political mobilization seems to be the most comfortable alternative to make true the changes they dream about. This large number of political subjects does in one way stipulate the division of the electorate and this brings as always at governments formed by coalitions and leaves no way for a spoiling the system.
Caucuses have been already and “visions”, plans and projects defined. Factions or interest groups are on a hurry to get as much as they can even though we do really, really miss the tact of lobbying. I am worried about the lobbying issue since I find it the most legitimate and moralistic way on achieving you’re goals and interests. But, in Kosova lobbying seems to be very much overshadowed from the gerrymander trend.
And gerrymanders do not hesitate to pass limits. The pre-election campaign is being noisy. We are witnessing a new trend on how to persuade, convince and win support. Party leaders are on a new trend on trying to show off their charismatic authority as much as possible. The might have only e little of this virtue but still they’re determined to put it on bold. The leading figure is ‘enforced’ that sometimes it provokes the feeling like if that is a “personal party”. Even some anonymous willing to be-delegates are on a serious attempt on trying to gain the trust of their constituency.
We’re on the midst of the campaign and tension is up to rise. As we approach the verdict date things are getting more and more interesting. And even though lots of people are as worried as not to even take part in the elections I say that we shall all vote. If not to reward than to condemn. A vote can do both of them.
I shall finish it now because that’s enough information for this moment. I will be continually informing you about all the new happenings and I wish you will do the same about what’s happening in U.S now.
P.S
I am very interested in your presidential campaign as well, so please do inform me.
Until next time, all my best wishes
Flandra

Dear Piter
I was pleased when I heard that you will make an article about elections in Kosova. Until last year the leaders has decided about the candidates, and the caucus has only made the formality. This year has required from a municipality to organize a referendum about the building of the Electro-central in Obiliq. We have many interests groups in Kosova, but they don't do cobbying. The leaders of the Political Parties has a Charismatic authority. Our Political system is a multi-Party system, and so the Parties has many apportunities to create a coalition.
Best wishes
Liridon
Hi Rita,
You have two choices for turning in homework. You can always turn in a paper copy in class. Or you can turn it in on the blog. Remember to post a comment in the section which lists the homework assignment.
Best, Michelle
Shaban,
You have some very specific goals, and they provide good variety (politcal science and football.) Good luck!
Hi Brikena,
Your email is short, but you have made some good points.
A few comments:
I don't understand this sentence:
"Political parties lead with charismatic authorities as interesting groups."
I understand the first part: "Political parties lead by charistmatic authority", but not the second part. An interest group is a group of voters that have a shared interest, and lobby (pressure) the legislature to support or pass legislation about that issue.
The word referedum usually includes the preposition on: you have a referdum on independence, on health care, etc.
if we can't realise the independence, political parties has determined to declare the referendum.
Hi Fatmire,
You've captured the confusion of a multi-party system quite well in your email.
A few comments: you've missed articles (a/the) in a few places.
Something missing:
" in the next two weeks _______ are going to be elections."
"...and on _____ ______ that you have a two-party system that makes it easier to decide."
"The fact that in the competition _______ are thousands of candidates and political parties they are forced in a way to make coalitions between them so this is a kind of confusion and a hard desicion for us to decide who deserves our votes...!
The end of this sentence confuses me: "...making posters and pictures with world's famous leaders and their party leaders that they consider them as a charismatic authorities." What exactly do you want to write here? Who is a charasmatic authority?
Hello Flandra,
You wrote a very well organized and well reasoned email. Nice work.
I noticed some problems with prepositions. Can you find the preposition errors in these sentences?
These are our very important, very crucial and very complicated elections held on a very specific time.
Kosova, as you know is on the process of the definition elections.
Since they have no trust on others they all want to be decision-makers themselves,
Factions or interest groups are on a hurry to get as much as they can even though we do really, really miss the tact of lobbying.
I am worried about the lobbying issue since I find it the most legitimate and moralistic way on achieving you’re goals and interests.
We’re on the midst of the campaign and tension is up to rise.
Hello Liridon,
Your email is short and to the point. REmember that your audience is a US student. Will she know what Obiliq is, or do you need to explain it?
You have some verb errors (tense and number agreement). Please identify and rewrite.
Donika,
You have a good SMART goal. Vocabulary and writing are important. We'll focus on both of these in class. What will you do outside of class to achieve your goal?
- Michelle
